The Victor II is a favorite of phonograph and record collectors, offering Victor quality and fidelity, yet still available at a modest price.

This is the earlier, fancier, more desirable model of the Victor II, the so-called "Humpback" II, nicknamed for its wooden hump in the rear of the case. My best guess is that the date of manufacture was between 1904-1909.

The machine here is a nice original example, with untouched age-darkened original finish. There are absolutely no reproduction parts, save for the two knurled bolts that hold the back bracket in place, and the rubber reproducer flange, which should always be replaced to ensure air tightness.

Cosmetically, I would note only some weathering on the nickel plated tone arm components.

The original Victor brass bell horn is approximately 18 inches long with a 12 1/4 inch bell. This isn't an enormous horn, but is perfectly appropriate to this machine, and yields excellent sound. This size horn may be a good choice if you are a little bit pressed for space. The horn is in much better than average condition. There is some very light typical creasing in one section of the rim.

Most important, the machine has been mechanically restored. I have taken apart the motor and cleaned, lubricated and adjusted everything.

The motor was working when we received this machine, but after rebuilding it and re-greasing the mainspring I decided the mainspring was just a tad weak. So I took things apart once more and installed a brand new mainspring. And this again is one difference between our machines and a machine for sale on a venue such as ebay.

I also rebuilt the reproducer to yield maximum sound.

You can see and hear this Victor II play in the youtube video below.

A good choice for those of you whose idea of restoration is to have your antiques enjoyably functional, yet mucked around with as little as possible.
