One of the earliest cylinder phonographs you are likely to encounter, this style of the Edison Home Phonograph was introduced in 1896. The four clips holding down the lid have given it the nickname of the "Suitcase" Home. It was replaced by a more conservative cabinet in 1901, but the unusual case and colorful red banner decal make it a favorite of modern collectors.
I have gone through the motor of this machine, replaced some questionable gearing, polished the governor, re-greased the mainspring, etc, as well as cleaning and adjusting the upperworks. The original automatic reproducer and carriage assembly has been replaced at some time in the history of the machine with the improved, self-centering Model C reproducer (not unusual). The machine is playing well, and demonstrates as a nice example of its era. Cabinet and decal are original finish.
There is a small chip in the base molding at the front of the machine. Crank is old and functional, though from the 1901 model.
Includes five good original two minute cylinders, and 14 inch brass and black replica horn.
