This is a Model B Standard retrofitted with the combination conversion kit introduced around 1909 in order to allow the machine to play both the old two minute records, and the new four minute cylinders. There's a knurled knob to the left of the mandrel, simply push in for 2 minute or pull out for 4 minute.
This machine has been mechanically rebuilt, totally taken apart and put back together. The many things we do as part of this kind of restoration include cleaning all the gearing and bushings of 100 years of dirt and grease; polishing the governor shaft; inspecting the governor weights for integrity; polishing the governor collar; making sure the mainspring has fresh grease; disassembling. cleaning and oiling the upperworks; and re-belting the machine with our special pigskin belting.
The case has very nice original finish and original decal.Everything is old and original save for the upper gear cover, which is almost always missing. Fortunately, I had an old reproduction on hand.
The blue morning glory horn with hand-painted flowers is approximately 31 inches long with a 22 inch bell. Everyone wants this type of horn, but despite the impression you may gain from TV and the movies, very few machines came with this type of horn with hand-painted flowers, and in fact most of these horns were aftermarket horns, making them quite scarce and desirable.
This horn has typical heavy weathering on the outside of the horn, and some modest weathering on the interior panels. It still retains very decent original paint and makes for a spectacular display, as you can judge from the images.
As a bonus, this Standard comes with a Hawthorne and Sheble original crane. Original craning was frequently lost, and is also very desirable.
This machine comes with a rebuilt Model C 2 minute reproducer, which is playing loud and clear. You can hear it play by following the link to the mp3 file. Add a Model H 4 minute reproducer, and you'll be all set to play almost any kind of cylinder record.
Price includes 5 nice, clean, original 2 minute cylinders.
