Edison Combination Standard - Green Morning Glory Horn - Restored for sale

$1350

Here's a great, original Model B Edison Standard Phonograph with combination gearing to play both 2 and 4 minute cylinders and a gorgeous old green morning glory horn with hand-painted flowers. What's more, this machine has been mechanically restored.

The cabinet has very nice old dark varnish and original decal.

The horn, approximately 28 inches long with a 22 inch bell, is in as beautiful condition as you are likely to find. Despite the popular conception that these machines were all decorated with horns with hand-painted flowers, the truth is almost exactly the opposite: most of these horns were aftermarket horns, and are quite scarce. This particular horn was manufactured by a firm called the Tea Tray Company, and could have been added by the local dealership. It's also unusual to see one of these horns in green.

The substantial original craning that supports the horn is also quite hard to find and very collectable in its own right. Most craning over the years got separated from the machine, or if it survived, survived incomplete and in pieces.

The upper gear cover on these machines is almost always missing. The reproductions are not cheap, but because we believed that it was important for you that a nice machine like this be complete, we purchased a new one.

Everything in the motor and upperworks has been taken apart, cleaned, inspected. lubricated and adjusted. The governor and governor collar have been cleaned and oiled, important for smooth running. The mainspring has been pulled, cleaned and re-greased, a big job, but important to keep the spring from sticking to itself as it unwinds. The tensioner has been freed up. Only when we are satisfied that everything is running properly do we install our special, new pigskin belting on the machine.

The Model H 4 minute reproducer has been disassembled and rebuilt. This reproducer will play 4 minute wax Amberol records, and 4 minute Blue Amberol records. Blue Amberol records are the easiest kind of cylinders to find, and thousands of titles were recorded on them. Because this machine is equipped with the conversion kit that was sold ca. 1910 to convert your 2 minute machine to also play 4 minute records, you could if you want at some time in the future purchase a Model C 2 minute reproducer and you'd be all set play any kind of cylinder Edison might throw your way.

This Standard has been tested and is now playing just as nice and smooth and sweet as can be, as you can hear by clicking on the audio link, or by listening to a different title on the youtube video below.

It doesn't get much better than this, but we will make it even better! We'll include 10 nice original Edison cylinders with this Standard.
