Columbia Graphophone Type AZ for sale

$600

Introduced in 1904, the Graphophone Type AZ was a mid-range machine, very much in size and style like Edison's Standard, and designed to compete with it.

The fixed carriage and lyric reproducer offered superior sound to Columbia's earlier floating reproducer machines.

From a collector's standpoint, the AZ was not a pot metal machine, ie did not employ pot metal castings in the chassis and carriage, and so is not bedeviled by the pot metal problems that plague many Columbia models. This means that the machine is not trouble prone and if, necessary, capable of being repaired.

Mechanically, this AZ is in good condition. We have belted the machine and lubricated it. Crank is an Edison style reproduction. The reproducer is very strong, as you can hear in the mp3.

The case has been nicely refinished, with quality reproduction decals. A new bottom board has been put on the machine, not visible unless you were to turn it upside down.

This machine will play both Edison and Columbia two minute cylinders.

Includes 14 inch replica horn and five good original cylinder records. Compare to $1200 on ebay, for a machine in lesser condition.
