This cute little guy (7 1/4" by 10 1/4") dates from 1908 and represents the last of the B series Graphophones.
It was designated a Type BV and is seen in three incarnations:
The version here was sold with and without Columbia decal. Because this machine retains its original finish, we can assume that this BV never emerged from the factory with a decal.
This machine doesn't fall into the rare category, but I have always found it a little scarce. The original price was $12, making it an entry level machine, but judging from the number I've encountered sales never approached close to the numbers of a slightly more expensive machine such as the $30 BK. The motor and reproducer housing are unique to the machine. If you're into Columbias, it's definitely something a little eccentric to add to your collection.
This is a really nice, untouched example of a BV. The nickel plating is nice, clean and shiny.
This Graphophone has been tested and is in good working condition. I didn't do any restoration other than some lubrication and re-belting.
You can hear it play on the mp3 file, or on the youtube video embedded below.
Price includes 14 inch brass and black replica horn, and 3 nice cylinders.
