The Columbia Type BI, sometimes advertised as the Sterling, was introduced in 1905 at a price of $45. The double spring motor offered extended playing time, and made it a competitor to a Victor model such as a Victor III.
The boxy case and colorful banner decal make it especially appealing to modern collectors.
This example has very nice original golden oak finish and a very good nickel plated back bracket. The decals are in good condition and add a lot of eye candy to the case.
The hard-to-find, original ribbed Columbia horn completes the esthetics of the machine. There is some typical age-related cracking of the veneer on the inner portion of the horn, but the horn is in overall good condition.
The reproducer has been rebuilt, and the machine is playing smoothly and impressively, as you can see and hear in the youtube video below.
