1901 was the year of introduction of the Victor A, B, C and M. This is the earliest and less commonly seen 1901 version of the M (Victor Monarch). The later 1902 version would drop the rounded pillars in favor of the striated columns seen on the Victor C and E. Designed to play the new ten inch Monarch records, the M was equipped with a double spring motor. Note the pre-dog nameplate, 'Victor by Eldridge Johnson.' Johnson would afterwards not display his name so prominently on his product, and the Victor dog would go on to become the best known trademark in the world.
