Edison Standard Phonograph

This Edison Standard Phonograph has been restored. It's the Model B version of the Standard, dating to between around 1904 to 1909, but most likely early in that period because it's still showing the colorful banner decal.

Our idea of restoration is more than just a cosmetic cleaning or refinishing of the case. We spend hours and hours going over the mechanical parts of the machine, to make sure everything runs right and is trouble free. We completely disassemble the motor, upperworks and all the gearing, we inspect for bad parts, and then we clean, lubricate and readjust everything. We clean the governor and check for governor weight integrity. We rebelt the machine with our own special supple belting (you can't buy it anywhere) because the leather belting currently available never seems to work right. On this machine we even pulled, cleaned and regreased the mainspring, important for smooth running because the mainspring can stick to itself and yield uneven motor speed. Our machines are different. I challenge you to find an Edison for sale on ebay or any other venue that has had this kind of restoration applied to it.

The case on this machine is original finish with original gold banner decal. The finish has been cleaned and polished. There is some typical weathering , including a small spot just underneath the front motorboard slat where part of an old crane would have rubbed it. The fixtures you see on the back of the case in the images are part of an aftermarket crane. It comes with the original crank and lid. The lid had a little veneer peel at the edges (very, very typical) which has been glued down, and also the side panels were re-nailed at one time (also very common). We re-glued the lid and filled the small nail holes.

The rebuilt reproducer is original, not a cheap and inferior new one, is playing very strong, and should be good for another hundred years. Everything is running smoothly and it plays well -- listen to the mp3 file.

Includes 14 inch brass and black replica horn and three very nice two minute records. This item has been sold. Please contact us - we may be able to find you another.
