This example of the Edison Universal Shaver dates to around 1908 or slightly later. Although all of the Model A machinery except for the Gem was equipped with a shaver, the shaver was later dropped in most models except the Triumph. Quite a bit of motive power was required to shave a record smoothly, and this hand drawn shaving machine with large flywheel could actually do a better job than a spring motor model such as a Home.
