This beautiful Graphophone with interchangeable two and five inch mandrels is the Columbia AB, better known as the Macdonald. Thomas Macdonald was Columbia's chief engineer, and this rare Graphophone of his design shares some elements with Columbia's Q and Eagle. Five inch record sales (Grands in Columbia parlance, Concerts in Edison terminology) peaked around 1901, superceded by the louder tone of gold molded records. This example has an absolutely gorgeous case, all original finish and original decals, nice shiny nickle. Both mandrels are present. I test played a record or two and everything seems to be working properly. I haven't had one of these for sale in at least 25 years -- grab it now, could be a long wait for another. $2500
